Who we are.

Our story.

In 2018, Trinity Church York began running a small group Bible study to support Christians in the Wolds who wanted a chance to study the Bible mid-week. Over the years, the group grew and drew in others from the area who enjoyed the fellowship.

The arrival of covid lockdowns in 2020 meant we could no longer meet in homes, but these restrictions gave rise to an exciting opportunity. While we could not meet in homes for Bible study, we could gather for worship services. So in July 2021, our small group became a church service meeting in a marquee in a garden. And long story short, we never stopped!

We now have a small but growing group that meets every Sunday at 10am in Burnby Community Hall for our worship services. What started out small, God has grown to the point that our denomination (International Presbyterian Church) has decided to establish it as a church.

We hope this new church will give an opportunity for Christians, and many others in Pocklington, to come and join in with the worship of God and discover the good news of Jesus and Christianity. Everyone is welcome, whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth!

Our church.

We are a church in the heart of Pocklington made up of people of every age and stage of life. We share in common with Christians all over the world that together we love, trust and serve Jesus Christ, and aim to live for him and make him known.

Our elders.

The Bible teaches that the church is to be led by elders. Their calling is to care for and lead the church by devoting themselves to preaching and teaching God’s Word, prayer, and pastorally looking after the church family. The Bible sets out the calling and qualifications for elders in passages such as 1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1:5-9.

Loan Elders

Until we ordain our own elders in Pocklington we have two loan elders from Trinity Church York Simon Foster, and Roland Kettle. These men help with governing the church and caring for the congregation.

Our deacon.

If Elders are called to care for the church spiritually then it is right to think of the Deacons caring for the church physically. They have the task of looking after the practical needs of people in the congregation and helping the church show the love of Christ to others outside the church too. Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3 help us see the role in action and the type of men called to this role.
